Update 7 February: Doctor Music, the organizers of Bruce Springsteen’s Spanish tour, announced today that the concert is now confirmed in the Estadio de Gran Canaria on 15 May. Doors will open at 6pm, with the Boss himself scheduled to come on stage at 9pm.

Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, 9 February, from 9am, priced at €70 for a reserved seat or €60 for the general area. In a sign of quite how bad the economic crisis is in these islands, the latest business to close its doors is the family bakery Pan Domingo. After being a very respected brand name here for the past 45 years, and one that was closely identified with the Canaries, the company finished production on 31 January. Forty jobs will be lost as a result of the closure.

The company said that fall in demand and competition from supermarket own brands had caused a slow and inexorable decline over the past two years and it could no longer continue fighting insurmountable odds. When bakeries close, you know things are pretty bad.
