Man rescued from drowning at Playa Las Vistas
A 50-year-old man is critically ill after being resuscitated after drowning at Playa Las Vista in Los Cristianos. The incident happened just before 11am this morning, and emergency services were called out with reports that the man had been pulled from the water and attempts to bring him around were taking place. Once paramedics were on the scene, they stabilized him and then transferred him to Hospitén Sur, where he remains in a serious condition, but thankfully alive.
Glimmer of hope in unemployment figures
August’s unemployment figures for the Canaries are positive for the first time in a while, going down 0.39%. The drop is the second highest in the whole of Spain. Nationally, unemployment actually rose in August, by 0.38%, leaving 4,625,634 throughout the country. Here in the Canaries, our drop of 0.39% means 1,119 fewer people were out of work, 890 in the Santa Cruz province, and 229 in Las Palmas. Compared to a year ago, both figures are higher, but August’s positive results offer a glimmer of hope.
