Adeje Ayuntamiento and the Carrera por la Vida/ Walk for Life collective has issued a public invitation to the inauguration of the brand new Sala Rosa/Pink Room at 6pm this Friday, 2 October, in the Escuela de Seguridad y Convivencia de Adeje, in Las Nieves, Adeje (see map below – you’ll see Lidl, Makro and Mercadona in the top half: the red star in the bottom half is where the Escuela de Seguridad is).
The Sala Rosa’s opening in October coincides with World Breast Cancer Month, and Carrera por la Vida will be holding a range of activities in the Adeje area to raise awareness and aid prevention of one of the most frequent cancers for women in the west. To date, the Carrera por la Vida collective has focused on organizing fund-raising events to support sufferers and their families, but now, after ten years, and with the support of Adeje Ayuntamiento, there is to be a permanent centre in the borough.
The Sala Rosa/Pink Room is a concept developed by Brigitte Gypen as a “meeting place and wellbeing space where anyone affected by breast cancer can get together, relax, and find both information and refuge”, and which can be used as a centre to coordinate help, organize events, and many other “pink projects” in the future. It will be open to anyone affected by cancer, and their families and friends, and there won’t be language barriers because it will be a “feelgood” space of international wellbeing – because, as Gypen says, cancer does not recognize national boundaries. What a fantastic thing for Adeje to help develop.
