It is already the municipality with arguably the greatest disabled provision in the Canaries, and now Arona has announced that it has doubled the number of defibrilators available to the public from 12 to 24. The council says that this provides one machine for every 3,374 inhabitants, as opposed to the national average of one for every 18,000, and so puts Arona at the top of the list of municipalities providing the life-saving service.

The defibrilators are geolocalied to enable them to be found quickly on the internet, and have been installed in football fields, council offices and cultural centres, and allow cardiac rhythm to be re-established by means of an electric discharge in the crucial minutes after someone suffers a heart attack.

The new ones can be found in the Cultural Centres in La Camella, Parque La Reina, Urbanización Virgen del Carmen, Cabo Blanco, Los Cristianos and Valle San Lorenzo; in the Arona Policía Local comisaría; in the El Fraile Centro Cívico; in the Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Los Cristianos, in the Centro Empresarial de Las Galletas, in the Arona Alcaldía and the Arona fines office.

The original defibrilators, which the council installed in 2015, are in sports facilities in Valle San Lorenzo, Los Cristianos, Buzanada, Cabo Blanco, Las Galletas, and Arona town.

Once you’ve found a machine I understand that the instructions and necessary contact numbers are on them. I’m afraid I don’t have the first idea of how to use one. As it says above, they are mainly in council installations, so offices or sports facilities, though I’ve also seen one, no doubt a private one, in the Arona Gran Hotel lobby.
