The El Día gastronomy awards have been presented, with the best Tenerife chef award winner being announced as Juan Carlos Padrón of El Rincon de Juan Carlos in Los Gigantes. The Best Tenerife restaurant was Kazan in Santa Cruz, the best hotel restaurant was Abama’s M.B. and the best Canarian restaurant was El Calderito de la Abuela in Santa Ursula. The best foreign restaurant was Niqqei in Santa Cruz, and the best Spanish (as opposed to Canarian) restaurant was Meson Castellano in Playa de las Américas. The best chef discovery was Marcos Tavío of Niqqei.
The restaurants have all been described on Jack and Andrea Montgomery’s wonderful website The Real Tenerife HERE, and I’ve mentioned before that Jack has advised that when people say something is excellent it is vital to determine what criteria they’re applying … mostly it seems to be quantity, rather than quality, he says, and I agree with him! In all the cases of these awards, however, quality rules … and wins! And whether you go to the restaurants or not, have a look at that article on Jack’s site because the pictures alone are mouth-watering!
