A 65-year-old walker died this lunchtime while hiking along the Pico Viejo to Montaña Samara track in the Teide national park. Emergency services were called around 12.30 with reports that the man, said to be a foriegner, had collapsed, and search and rescue teams including two helicopters were despatched. They found the man around 1pm but could do nothing to help and confirmed his death at the scene. The Guardia Civil then flew to the national park to take charge of the investigation and to arrange the transfer of the poor man to TFN, where his body was handed over to judicial authorities.
