Hotel Médano’s terraces to be demolished

Update 20 May: The Department of the Environment has followed up its permission from the High Court, and declared void the permit to build on public-maritime land. The Dept has ordered Costas in Tenerife to arrange for the hotel’s terraces to be demolished. DA

Original Post 30 March: It looks as though the Hotel Médano is to lose at least its terrace after a High Court decision to allow the Dirección General de Costas to initiate proceedings to demolish the balcony and solarium built on pillars in 1960 to create the impression of a ship about to sail out to sea. The sentence does not rule out the possibility that more if not all of the hotel could face demolition, according to some experts in urbanistic development law.  La Opinion
