Orange alert for wild seas in Tenerife as body found of man swept away by tide on west coast

costeros feb11

Aemet has raised an Orange Alert for wild seas, “costeros”, from tonight. The alert will last throughout tomorrow, but will still be at yellow status on Friday. The alert is only for the north coast, but there will be spectacular waves around the whole of the island. Great care is needed though, with a Polish couple swept away last night by a wave at Puerto Santiago near Los Gigantes in the west. Although the 21-year-old woman managed to save herself at the time, her 33-year-old partner’s body has been found this morning after emergency services scrambled search teams including helicopters. These are dangerous seas, with up to a 5m swell. Enjoy the spectacle, but be careful.  PV
