Human remains found by walkers in Los Silos

Update 23 February 10pm: Investigations are still continuing into this find. Initially, and before the skeleton was removed, the authorities investigated the possibility that the individual was pre-Hispanic, and therefore of historical value. When that theory was discounted, the remains were removed to the Forensic Medicine Institute for DNA tests. The disfigurement of the skull, together with a hole that pierced it, has given rise to the preliminary hypothesis that the person was a victim of the Civil War in the 1930s. El Dia, RTVC

Original post 23 February: A Puerto de la Cruz Guardia Civil unit is investigating the discovery of what appear to be human remains in an area known as El Topo or El Casado in Los Silos along the coast from Buenavista del Norte in north Tenerife. The discovery took place on Sunday when two walkers in the remote area found part of what could be a half-buried human skeleton. The remains have been examined today by the Icod Courts Medical Forensic Officer to confirm that they are human bones, and to try to establish an approximate date of burial. RTVC
