Samurai swordsman arrested after New Year’s Eve attack on Briton in Playa Paraiso bar

One New Year’s Eve incident has resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man for attempted murder after attacking a fellow drinker in a Playa Paraiso bar with a samurai sword. The father and brother of the arrested man have also been detained for aiding and abetting him. A fight originally broke out without weapons, but the eventual attacker, who seems to have been thrown out of the bar, returned shortly afterwards wielding the sword, with which he caused serious arm injuries, but thankfully no worse. English papers have identified the victim as British holidaymaker Gary Wainwright, and the bar as the Britannia.
