Tenerife president Carlos Alonso and Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga presented an accord yesterday for improvements to tourist areas in the Costa Adeje as part of the Tourism Strategy Agreement 2015-2019. The agreement will see around €4m heading Adeje’s way. The money, €1,243,299 from the Cabildo and €2,708,700 from Adeje itself, will fund an improved access from Fañabé to La Caleta (€949,000), and the refurbishment of the promenade between Puerto Colon and Fañabé beach (€3.2m). President Alonso said that the first contract of works will be awarded shortly with works expected to take a year. Mayor Fraga, for his part, said that the Cabildo and Adeje Ayuntamiento will continue to work closely for the benefit of the area’s tourism and image.
The agreement covers a five year period, not just these two projects, and future works will bring funding from the Canarian Government’s Open Commercial Areas programme as well as private investors. Apart from Adeje, the Cabildo also signed similar agreements witih other tourist municipalities, including Puerto de la Cruz, Arona and Santiago del Teide, to support touristic improvements. The total investment through the Convenio de Estrategia Turística 2015-2019 amounts to some €10m.
