Update 9 February 2015: I first posted this last year, and again this year, Tráfico will be carrying out a national van and lorry campaign. As I said below, the campaign will be checking speed, driving hours, tachographs, weight being transported and load security, technical defects, and driver and vehicle documentation. The police will also be checking that commercial vehicles comply with various EU directives concerning mirrors and reflective markings. The controls will be in place until next Sunday, 15 February.

Original post 11 February 2014: Over the next week, Tráfico will be carrying out a national campaign of control points to monitor commercial vehicles. The DGT says that although 67% of the vehicles in Spain are cars, vans and lorries represent the second largest type of vehicle on Spanish roads – 15% – and involve 14% of accidents resulting in injuries. Checks will include speed, driving hours, tachographs, weight being transported and load security, technical defects, and driver and vehicle documentation. The police will also be checking that commercial vehicles comply with various EU directives concerning mirrors and reflective markings.
