Police say that their main hypothesis for the death early on Sunday morning of a 36-year-old transgender woman identified as Lorena is that she was engaged in prostitution and was attempting to escape a client. Residents of the apartment block in Santa Cruz called police shortly after 5.30am with reports that they had heard shouts and that a woman had fallen into an interior patio after climbing through a third-floor window in an attempt to escape a man with a gun. Sadly, paramedics were unable to save her and she died at the scene shortly afterwards from the injuries sustained in the fall. The alleged attacker has been located and arrested.
