El Médano hosts world windsurf championships for second consecutive year 12-18 July
Update 29 June 2012: The world professional windsurfing championships will be held at El Médano’s Playa El Cabezo for the second consecutive year between 12 and 18 July, Granadilla mayor Jaime González Cejas has confirmed, after meeting to finalise details with representatives of club DB, Daniel Bruch, organizers of the event. The mayor said that the Ayuntamiento was delighted to support the championships since El Médano has become known as one of the best destinations in the world for aquatic sports.
Taking part in the event will be Philip Köster, and sisteres Daida and Iballa Ruano, winners from last year, and many other familiar names in the windsurfing community who will be coming to El Médano from around the world. As well as the sport, which will be the main draw for aficionados, there will also be a marquee for other activities and music.

Original post 15 July 2011: From yesterday until 20 July, the Cup-PlanetWin365, the second stage of the World Professional Windsurfing Championships, is being held at Playa del Cabezo, El Médano, where 42 men and 15 women are competing not only for the stage, but to share the prize money of €45,000 which is up for grabs. Should be quite a spectacle, and the weather is said to be perfect for the event. More information from the official site HERE.
