Woman dies while abseiling in north Tenerife

A woman died this lunchtime after becoming trapped in a pool while abseiling in the Barranco de la Pimentera, Buenavista del Norte. Emergency services say that they were called out shortly after 12.30pm with reports that the woman had suffered a problem with her cable and was trapped unconscious in a pool where she was drowning.

Medics who happened to be in the area managed to pull her out and establish that she was in cardiac arrest. They started to try to resuscitate her, and their efforts were taken over by paramedics when they arrived, and continued while she was transferred by helicopter to the TF1 roundabout at Santiago del Teide. Sadly, however, despite all their attempts she could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.

The services helping in the incident were an SUC medical helicopter, a GES search and rescue helicopter, the Buenavista and Santiago del Teide Policías Locales, the Guardia Civil, and the Cabildo’s roads maintenance department. There are no details as of yet about the victim.
