A 46-year-old German man died of a heart attack 150 metres from the top cable car station in the Teide National Park just after 4pm this afternoon. National Park staff tried to resuscitate him, and their efforts were taken up by ambulance and emergency helicopter crews, but tragically nothing could be done to save his life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
I’m not suggesting that this poor man had a heart condition, but it is worth stressing that anyone with cardiac or respiratory problems should go no higher than the crater itself. The effects of altitude are insidious and can go unnoticed until it is too late for any help to be effective. Cecoes112
