As posted HERE a month ago, the long-running furore over the legality of La Laguna’s Al Campo galería was coming to an end, and needed only the approval of the Commerce Department of the Canarian Government itself. This approval has now been forthcoming, and the commercial licence for the Al Campo extension has been granted.
All reports, from the Ayuntamiento of La Laguna, Competition Defence Services, the Department of Economy and Hacienda, as well as the Dirección General de Comercio and the Cabildo de Tenerife, have been favourable to the granting of the licence. Finally, the saga is over, the licence is granted, and the galería will stay open to shoppers. Many will say that this was an inevitable outcome, and some will certainly imply that it was an outcome that was “bought”, but probably for most, the decision will simply represent a victory for common sense and shoppers alike.
