It’s been a day of lucky escapes in Tenerife. A 36-year-old man is critically ill in Candelaria hospital, but alive, after falling from a wall into Santa Cruz harbour just before daybreak this morning. Also lucky to be alive is a 34-year-old driver who jumped over a wall just after midnight after fleeing a police checkpoint only to find that he was falling down a barranco: he is now critically ill, but alive, also in Candelaria hospital where police are waiting to interview him. Finally, a 43-year-old tourist is critically ill after being resuscitated from a cardiac arrest he suffered shortly after 10am in a swimming pool in a hotel in La Caleta, Costa Adeje. The hotel’s lifeguards pulled the man unconscious out of the water, and paramedics took up resuscitation efforts, which were successful, and after which he was transferred to Hospiten Sur where his condition is said to be critical, but alive.
