Many a time I’ve heard people bewail the lack of internet presence of businesses here, with complaints that they seem so far behind the times. Now, in Adeje at least, the situation could start to be remedied with the council’s economic development and employment department under councillor Manuel Luis Méndez Martín developing ImPyme Adeje, a new local initiative which will work to increase local business visibility online.
The project is part of the AdejeImpulsa branch and directed specifically at small and medium businesses in the borough. Letters, in Spanish and English, are currently being sent to local businesses outlining in more detail the advantages of the project. Councillor Méndez explains that “helping the local commercial sector and offering them the essential tools to enter or improve their presence in the digital world as well as assisting those who need it in manipulating new technologies to their advantage are just some of the objectives of this project. Overall our aim is that Adeje’s small and medium businesses can be a vanguard in the Canarian, Spanish and European commercial sectors”.
ImPyme Adeje is already underway in Zone 1 (the town centre, La Postura, Los Olivos, El Galeón and Las Torres) and will begin to operate in the tourist zones of Costa Adeje and the tourist and residential areas of Zones 2, 3 and 4 (see below). Crea Solutions, the company contracted by the council to work on the project, has a team of 6 people (taken from the job seekers list) who will be visiting local businesses asking them to fill in questionnaires, and helping them with geolocation: this is, in effect, a free service for local businesses and will be taking place over the next 5 months to help businesses place themselves on Google Maps and create their own pages in Google My Business. The team will also work to solve any current issues to maximise digital presence.
