There have been complaints about parking problems in Adeje for some time, and already works are well underway on the new car park at the top of town incorporating renovation of the old fort (Casa Fuerte) which is intended as Mayor Fraga’s lasting gift to the town (see HERE), and there are plans in design stage for a further car park in the La Postura part of town. Now, in addition, the council has announced the approval of another plan for a new underground car park in Los Olivos.
The plan is part of the council’s on-going commitment to improve the quality of life for Adeje’s residents and businesses in the town. The car park will be between the streets of San José and La Cruz, and will provide 285 spaces (at least 8 disabled spaces) on three levels covering 8,000 square metres with lifts and security throughout. The top surface will be a public plaza and sport ground. The total cost is expected to be around €3m, and the council says that after tenders were submitted the licence has been granted and works awarded to Luis Olano Construcciones S.L.
Councillor for works and services, Carmen Rosa González Cabrera, says the parking proposal has been designed “to meet the changing needs of the zone, with a concentration of Adeje’s residents living in Los Olivos and La Postura. This is also a busy commercial nucleus. The new structure will also give the public a new space for leisure activities and sport”. During the work traffic along the affected streets will continue as normal.
