Update 24 August: It’s over … until the next one, of course! Tenerife’s heatwave alert has now been lifted, though the eastern islands remain on yellow alert through the weekend. We actually had rain high above the west coast yesterday evening. Rain! In August! It only lasted 10 minutes but it was a proper shower and everything felt really fresh afterwards. Since then we’ve had lovely cool breezes and today is 28º and cloudy. Just about perfect to start to cool down.
Update 21 August: Aemet has raised the yellow alert for Tenerife to orange this afternoon for temperatures of up to 38º. Tomorrow’s alert is currently at yellow for up to 36º, with up to 34º being forecast for Thursday.
Update 19 August: Aemet has now declared a yellow alert for the weather system. Temperatures of up to 34º are forecast for tomorrow, and up to 35º for Tuesday.
Original post 16 August: Aemet has forecast yet another heatwave, the sixth this year in the Canaries starting on Sunday. At present it is expected to last until Tuesday, but further details, and possible alerts, will no doubt follow in due course.
