Banca Civica to close 156 branches at cost of 1,480 jobs

Only the other day the economic crisis caused the closure of a famous Canarian bakery with the loss of 40 jobs (see HERE), and now the new Banca Cívica (the bank formed by the merger of CajaCanarias with CAN, Caja de Burgos and Sa Nostra as posted HERE) advised Unions yesterday that 156 branches will close with the loss of 1,480 jobs. Banca Cívica says that talks with the Unions will continue.

The Unions have sent an internal memo to 8,000 bank employees denouncing the measures, and confirming that of the job losses, 450 will be from central services, 970 from branches, and 60 from internet support. The memo also said that the job losses start now with 300 jobs going immediately.
