Bather dies after getting into difficulties at Cueva de El Tacón in Puerto Santiago

A 43-year-old man died this lunchtime after being rescued from the sea at the Cueva de El Tacón, Puerto Santiago. Emergency services say that they were called out just before noon with reports that a swimmer who had been spotted in dificulties in the water had been rescued by other bathers but was in cardiac arrest. They were advised by phone while waiting for medical crew to arrive but despite the efforts of all, including a helicopter whose crew continued resuscitation attempts while the man was airlifted to a nearby football field, nothing could be done to revive him and he was declared dead on landing.
