Tenerife Bomberos say that they received a call shortly after 1am last night from security guards in Las Chafiras that they could smell fire and see smoke in a bodywork and paint-spraying warehouse. The fire spread very rapidly through adjoining roofs, however, and finally affected six large naves just long from Lidl.
Some forty firemen from the Consorcio Insular de Bomberos were involved, including units from the fire stations in San Miguel, Santa Cruz, La Laguna, and volunteer units from Adeje, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Güímar and Tegueste, were eventually involved after the fire was declared a level 3 major emergency. The blaze was eventually extinguished around 3.15am, with various bomberos units remaining on site damping down and ensuring the blaze did not start up again. The above and following photos from Tenerife Bomberos give an idea of the scale of the fire and the sorry scene this morning in one premises.
