There might be a ban on bonfires but one accidental blaze has been burning through the night in Guía de Isora. The fire broke out yesterday evening in the Lomo del Balo area between Playa La Arena and the TF1: bomberos say that it started in a build-up of rubbish and agricultural pruning, and it was hard work preventing it spreading to nearby greenhouses. It was, they say, effectively extinguished before it flared up again around 5am. Now it is again under control and contained to avoid any spread. The council says that its own resources, private help and a fire engine from Santiago del Teide were all involved in assisting the bomberos in the works which continue today. Well it is San Juan, but I’m not sure this is how it’s supposed to go! The council reminds the public that bonfires are forbidden today.
