British woman airlifted from Altavista refuge on Teide peak with injured leg after fall

A 44-year-old British woman had to be rescued by helicopter around 10.30 this morning after falling and injuring her leg near the Refugio de Altavista, in the Teide national park. The Altavista refuge is situated at 3,260m (the height of the upper Teleférico station is 3,555m), and is most often used by walkers who are climbing to the peak of Teide. Emergency services were called out with reports of her fall, and after she was initially attended by Red Cross at the scene, a search and rescue helicopter arrived and paramedics immobilized her. She was then airlifted to TFN, and then transferred to Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
