There were incredible scenes worthy of a movie last night in west Tenerife when police had to shoot the wheels out of a Titsa bus that thieves had stolen from Guía de Isora. Police say that they were called out by locals in Chio in the early hours of this morning with reports that a Titsa bus was doing the rounds without its lights on and being driven recklessly.

A Guía de Isora Policía Local unit was dispatched, and what resulted was akin to the road chase scene at the start of Some Like It Hot, with a pursuit along the TF82 towards Santiago del Teide and then the TF454 to the junction with the TF47 where the police car tried to stop the bus but unfortunately collided with a police car coming from Santiago del Teide. At that point, the Santiago del Teide Policía Local officers shot the bus wheels out to stop it, managing to bring it to a halt at the roundabout by the Policía Local station in Santiago del Teide.

Police say that two middle-aged men are now detained: both were already known to them, one indeed about to be imprisoned for a previous offence. They have now been placed in the custody of the Guardia Civil for judicial processing. Guía de Isora councillor for Security Angeles Gonzalez Rodriguez said that “thanks to the rapid coordination of both local police forces, a far worse outcome of this lamentable incident was avoided”.

  1. Well done Local and Guardia. Saved what could could have been serious injuries.
