Teide access roads situation – winter 2012

Update 15 February: The snow forecast yesterday arrived, leaving a covering of around 5cm in the area of the observatory, where even at 9.15 this morning it was minus 5.8ºC! The Cabildo has again closed the TF24 access road from La Esperanza and, today, the  TF21 from La Orotava, both of which are blocked by ice. Highway teams have been working to clear the roads since first light. The Cabildo has asked the public to stay away from the general area for their own safety.

Update 10 February 4pm: The Cabildo has announced that the road is now reopened to traffic.

Original post 10 February: The Cabildo has closed the TF24 Teide access road from La Esperanza because of ice. The closure is between the TF523 crossing (Los Loros, Arafo) and the El Portillo junction (TF21-TF24).

Road maintenance teams have been working since early this morning to clear the way. Meanwhile, the Cabildo asks the public not to visit the area by the other access routes for their own safety.
