The Tenerife Cabildo has started works to improve the TF342, the road that runs through four municipalities in north Tenerife between Icod de los Vinos and Los Realejos passing through San Juan de la Rambla and La Guancha. The works on the 13km stretch are expeccted to cost €2.3m and to be completed before the end of the year.
Cabildo President Carlos Alonso stressed the importance of the works, which “complement other improvements carried out on the island’s roads, and which will include renewal of some of the worst sections of the carriageway as well as repairs to other parts of the asphalt, improved drainage, and renewed signposting, lighting, and elevated pedestrian crossings, all of which will enhance safety for the considerable numbers of drivers and pedestrians who use the road”.
The Cabildo’s works are part of a general plan involving an investment of nearly €80m to improve road surfaces in Tenerife that fall within the jurisdiction of the Cabildo (i.e. what we would call A roads or inter-urban primary roads). The plan was initiated in 2016 and is included in the Cabildo’s Strategic Framework for Island Development (MEDI) with funding from the Canaries Development Fund (FDCAN) and additional to the €20m budget for regional level roads (jurisdiction of the Regional Government).
The Cabildo asks drivers for their understanding, caution and patience while works are ongoing, and to comply with locally placed directions.
