Calima arrives as forecast bringing strong winds and dirty air, and it’ll be worse over the weekend

Updated 25 March: Ufff. It is windy, half the Sahara is on my floors, it’s hot and cold simultaneously, and the air is filthy, and the calima’s only just starting really to blow in, as forecast. And it’s going to get worse over the next couple of days. Joy …

Original post 22 March: From tomorrow afternoon a calima will drift across the eastern islands to Tenerife where it will affect air quality as well as pushing temperatures up a bit. Winter calimas never get really warm but they have a dreadful effect on people, causing breathing problems, eye infections, sore throats, coughs and allergies. Please see HERE for advice on how to stay safe. This calima will be mainly noticeable in the medianías in Tenerife, and is expected to reach its worst point from Thursday 25 through the weekend, bringing strong winds and possible dirty rain with it. Joy.
