After Aemet’s forecast yesterday of high winds and calima only for the eastern islands, Tenerife finds itself in the middle of a calima with accompanying gales today. Aemet acknowledges that the calima is, now, affecting the whole of the Canaries, and that it will continue to do so until Sunday. Temperatures will remain around 30º or so in the eastern islands and in the mid-altitudes of the western ones. The wind, an easterly which identifies this as a calima rather than a scirocco, will be light to moderate with strong gusts, especially at altitude, and will start to die away towards Saturday night, with cool westerlies beginning to clear the air on Sunday. Some rain is expected on Tuesday, which is the normal aftermath to an autumnal calima.
