Updated 23 February: Sadly, a body has been found in Tenerife. As usual police are not confirming an identity, but from tributes posted to social media it does appear that the sad discovery is indeed that of missing Huddersfield soldier Matty Bermingham. Police are liaising with Foreign Office officials who are in touch with the family.

Original post 16 February: Social media throughout the Canaries is responding to a Huddersfield family’s desperate search for Matty Bermingham. I myself was alerted by Julie Cliffe-Jones of Lanzarote Information, and there is now a Facebook community HERE which has been set up to help search for the 21-year-old Yorkshire Regiment soldier. His family do not know for sure that he is in Tenerife but his driving licence was found here – it was posted to the family by a holidaymaker who found it. There are more details in the Huddersfield Examiner HERE, and Matty’s photo is above. If anyone can help, please make contact through the Facebook community page.
