Canarian government “water safety” videos

With the arrival of summer and, from today, the main two months for Tenerife’s tourism, the Canarian government has released the above video (English version below) offering advice for safe bathing. I’m pleased to see that they’ve included two of the main issues that I draw attention to HERE.

First, to avoid cold water shock, go in the sea slowly in order to acclimatize to water temperature (this is more clearly expressed in the Spanish video than the English one), and never if you’ve been drinking. Secondly, if you feel yourself being dragged out to sea by an undertow, do not try to swim straight back to shore, but swim parallel to the coast a short way until you can feel the tow has gone: then swim back to shore without any problem.
