Canaries first ever Foreign Tourist Attention Service opens in Puerto Santiago

The Canaries first ever Foreign Tourist Attention Service (oficina del Servicio de Atención al Turista Extranjero – SATE) is now open, and it’s in the municipality of Santiago del Teide. SATE is upstairs in the Policia Local station near the new Mercadona in Puerto Santiago, and will have one police officer and an interpreter available for tourists from Monday to Friday, 12 noon to 6pm, for information, complaints, denuncias, etc. Any tourists who need to involve the police for any reason can now do so in a dedicated space with guaranteed translation.

  1. Hello Janet!
Thank you for all your posts!
    They are so useful!
Is this great service for foreigner limited to the Puerto Santiago area or is it for the rest of the island as well?
Such a service would be so expected in the Adeje area as well!
    Again….thanks!

It’s a Government service, so not restricted to the Santiago del Teide municipality. It’s in the Policia Local building, but that houses the Guardia Civil as well, so this is not a local service only for visitors to Puerto Santiago or Los Gigantes, etc. Hopefully there will be other offices in due course, but this first one is for all foreign tourists in Tenerife.

  3. Hello Janet, is the Foreign Tourist Attention Service office available to non-residents who own property in a residential complex and wish to make a serious complaint regarding noise pollution in their street.

    With thanks.

No. The new service is for tourists with touristic issues, not for residential matters. Anyone with disturbance issues such as you describe should go to the local council and ask them to deal with the problem under existing bylaws.

  5. This sounded like a really good initiative but I understand that it has now ‘closed’. I have been told that it might start again in October so maybe it was a service offered to tourists during the busier winter months.

Was there a notice there, Andy, saying it was closed, or was it shut in the period Monday to Friday, 12 noon to 6pm which is when it is supposed to be open?

  7. A friend who worked there as a translator told me his last day was at the end of last week as the office was closing. He said it might open again in October…but in the meantime he is out of work sadly.
