Updated 10pm, 30/5: Emergency services say that in the end there were 55 on board, all male, of whom 30 were children. All were in apparently good health.
Original post 30 May: A patera with around 60 occupants is being towed into Tenerife although it was discovered just 13km south of Gran Canaria, the Coastguard has said. It is the second craft in 24 hours, after one last night with 47 on board was helped to safety in Arguineguin. Salvamento Marítimo says that this second one is being brought to Los Cristianos because of reception capacity issues in the eastern province: there has been a handful of such craft over the last week, all reaching one or other of those islands. The occupants of this latest patera are being brought into Los Cristianos: all are said to be male but there is no word yet about their state of health.
