The Coastguard has coordinated a rescue of a 25-year-old man who found himself him difficulties in the water off the coast of El Sauzal in north Tenerife. A Government search and rescue helicopter winched the man to safety along with the Policía Local officer who had jumped into the water to try to keep him afloat while rescue was on its way.
The rescue comes just a couple of days after the Coastguard’s Helimer 206 helicopter carried out an emergency medical evacuation from the cruise ship Costa Deliziosa some 180 miles off El Hierro. The passenger, 82 years old, was evacuated to TFS where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to hospital. The Coastguard has released this video of the evacuation.
