Anyone interested in marine environmentalism, or who would just like to see some turtles being released into the sea, should head to the Marina del Sur in Las Galletas next Friday, 15 April. Arona Ayuntamiento has announced an innovative event for south Tenerife, an exclusively environmental day to familiarise the public with the marine ecosystem of the area, in which residents and tourists co-exist. The council says that it fully supports the event, which is backed by a whole range of institutions, businesses and associations.
Conecta con el Azul (Connect with the Blue) will offer a wide range of activities, most notable perhaps the release of turtles which have been brought back to health. There will also be an official opening for the new permanent exhibition on the marina walls “Miradas al Atlántico” (Views of the Atlantic) by photographer Javier Campos. In addition, there will be talks including a discussion on whales and dolphins and how to protect them in a touristic area, activities for children, an environmental fair, an exhibition of items found on the sea bed, information on marine birds and their routes, handicrafts, and much more.
