It’s certain not to be believed here in the Canaries, but consumer association FACUA has carried out a study on Spanish taxi fares in 45 cities and the analysis shows that Canarian taxis are the cheapest in the country. Some short daytime journeys, indeed, show more than 200% differences in prices, with Santa Cruz, Arrecife in Lanzarote and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria coming out on top, or rather bottom, of the entire league. The most expensive taxis in Spain are in Tarragon, San Sebastián (Basque), Girona and Pamplona. No doubt there will be many “well yes official prices anyway” comments, or “doesn’t include the holiday areas”, but it’s now official. Our taxis aren’t as bad as they’ve been made out!
