Cyclist dies falling into barranco in Arafo

A 36-year-old Polish triathlete has died after falling some 10m from a bridge into a barranco while cycling on the main TF-28 in the La Hidalga area of Arafo. Emergency services were called out to the accident shortly before 5pm, and due to the difficulty of the terrain, bomberos accompanied medical and police rescuers down to the injured man, but sadly he was found already to have died from his injuries and he was declared dead at the scene. Police say that the man, identified as Jan Pruchnicki Bartoszwas, was cycling in a group of triathletes and seems to have entered the bend before the bridge too rapidly, being being thrown into the barranco after braking too hard.
