Dangerous Lithuanian criminal picked up by routine Las Américas traffic control

Everyone in south Tenerife can sleep more safely from today after Arona Policía Local arrested a dangerous Lithuanian in the early hours of yesterday morning. The 29-year-old man had a violent history of robbery and sexual assault in Spain, and had been extradited to Lithuania in 2006 by High Court judge Baltazar Garzón after an international warrant was issued for his arrest.

The man was apprehended after being stopped by a routine traffic alcohol checkpoint in Playa de Las Américas in which he was found to be three times over the limit. When police were processing the paperwork, they discovered his history and the fact that there was also an outstanding arrest warrant here in Tenerife. A police patrol was sent out immediately to locate and arrest him, and he was picked up shortly afterwards in Costa del Silencio. He will be appearing in court shortly.  Canarias7
