Partner and friend of Danish victim in Sunwing apartments released as autopsy suggests suicide

Update 24 May: Extraordinary … the pair, named as Helle Bune and Dan Fremlev Kristensen, have been released provisionally by the Court after the autopsy results suggest that the death from stomach stab wounds resulted from suicide. Judge María del Pilar Olmedo lifted the reporting restrictions in session this afternoon. PV

Update 23 May: The girlfriend and male friend of the dead Danish man have both have been “imputed” for murder, which means that they have been declared formal suspects in the ongoing criminal investigation. The pair appeared today in Arona Court 3 before Judge María del Pilar Olmedo López. The press is now confirming that the incident occurred in the Sunwing apartments. LO

Original post 21 May: A 38-year-old Danish tourist died from stab wounds to his stomach in the early hours of this morning in a Costa Adeje hotel. TV images suggest it happened in the Sunwing Apartments in Fañabe, but this is my impression of the pictures, and not yet confirmed.  Emergency services, nonetheless, were called to the scene but their efforts to resuscitate him were to no avail, and they could do no more than confirm his death at the scene.

It is important to note, given recent events in Los Cristianos, that this does not appear to have been a random attack by a stranger. The Policía Nacional, indeed, have arrested the dead man’s partner, also 38 years old, as well as a male friend of the couple who was staying in the adjacent room. All are Danish, and were on holiday until the end of May.

The Policía Nacional investigation is continuing. PV
