There is shock and sadness today in the National Police after Chief Inspector José Miguel Camejo Gallardo, number two in the National Police in Tenerife, died in his office in the Santa Cruz headquarters yesterday afternoon. Everything indicates that this senior officer, 58 years old, much respected, highly decorated, and of many years service, shot himself with his service revolver. After serving in various locations in Spain through his career, including operations against ETA in the Basque Country in the 1990s, he was posted to Tenerife five years ago after a decade in Las Palmas. His colleagues have expressed consternation at his death.
