El Médano to host kite-surf world championships between 9-15 August

Update 9 August: Starts today …

Update 16 July: El Médano is in the forefront of the sporting news for the moment, with the annual Triathlon having taken place on Saturday, and the Kite-surf world championships coming up between 9 and 15 August this year, with the very best kitesurfers in the world taking part. Let’s hope that the boost to the town will promote the plight of the Hotel Médano, and help to preserve this iconic landmark.

Original post 1 Feb: Granadilla has announced that El Médano will host the Kite-surf world championships between 9 and 15 August this year. The announcement was made at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid by the tourism councillor, María Candelaria Rodríguez González. Also present were several professional “riders” who will be competing in the event, which it is hoped will be a shot in the arm for Granadilla municipality’s touristic revenues. The Ayuntamiento attended the Fair armed with a range of promotional material, including a number of rural hotels in the hills which offer a different type of nature tourism to contrast with the traditional beach-type Tenerife holiday.  Diario de Avisos
