The Tenerife Cabildo, through the Tenerife Photography Centre, and together with Corte Inglés, has announced the sixth Informative and Documentary Photography competition. The prize, which started in 2005, will form part of the XIII Bienal Internacional de Fotografía – Fotonoviembre – which will take place in Tenerife between 8 November and the beginning of 2016.
In the presentation of the competition, Cabildo Culture and Education director José Luis Rivero stressed that the prize was not just for press photographers, but that anyone can participate providing that the photographs they enter are documentary in nature.
Winners and a selection of entries will be exhibited in the Ámbito Cultural hall in the main Corte Inglés store in Santa Cruz. Prizes will be in the range of €1,200 to €3,000, depending on placement and type of entry (series, individual photos etc). To give an idea of the type of photos that can win, the last competition in 2013 awarded a series of photos called “Kickboxing, and another called “La promesa de El Hierro” (the promise of El Hierro).
Entrants should be resident in the Canaries, and the photos they enter should have been taken specifically by the entrant within the last two years. Entries should not exceed 45cm on the long side, cannot have been “subsequently manipulated” (that’s a translation of “posterior manipulación” – I’m sure photographers will understand what it means), and cannot have added or omitted elements. Works should be sent to TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (Centro de Fotografía Isla de Tenerife, C/ San Sebastián, 8 38003 de Santa Cruz de Tenerife) before 2pm on 2 October.
