Four walkers rescued in 24 hours after succumbing to extreme conditions in Teide National Park

Two Polish hikers were rescued by search and rescue helicopter just before 4pm this afternoon from Cañada Blanca in the Teide National Park. The pair were overcome by hypothermia and exhaustion, and both were transferred to the La Orotava Health Centre, where their condition is said not to have been serious. Only yesterday, the Guardia Civil’s mountain rescue unit reports assisting two Russian women, a mother and daughter of 51 and 31, who were apparently completely unprepared for the extreme conditions and who were suffering hypothermia near the Refugio when they were rescued around 8pm and taken to University Hospital.
