Original post 14 December 2010: An armed thief, said to be eastern European, has carried out an attempted gunpoint robbery in the chemist next door to Dr Karen Whittaker’s surgery under the Arona Gran hotel in Los Cristianos. The proprietor says that the thief fired the weapon when he refused to hand over any money, but from his personal experience of firearms, he thought it sounded like a simulated pistol, so felt confident enough to confront the robber, who fled empty handed. It appears to be the same gunman who then held up a second chemist within the hour, this time in San Isidro, getting away with €1,500. Both thief and weapon are being sought by the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil, and the Arona and Granadilla policías locales. There is a TV video report HEREPV
