Update 27 June: King Felipe will inaugurate the telescopes in a ceremony that will start at the observatory at 6pm this evening. The King will be given a guided tour of the telescopes, and the evening will be rounded off with a performance of some Canarian music by the folk group Los Sabandeños. While in the Canaries over the next 24 hours, it is thought that the King, , who has a great interest in all things scientific, might include a trip over to La Palma to include a visit to the Roque de los Muchachos observatory, but that will be in a private capacity, and not part of the official visit.

Original post 23 June: The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) has announced that King Felipe VI will be in Tenerife this Saturday for the official inauguration of two new telescopes which will comprise the Quijote Experiment – the next stage of Big Bang investigations into background microwave radiation – along with another six robotic telescopes at the Teide Observatory.
