Arona Ayuntamiento has launched a campaign to promote the project ‘Las Galletas, Capital del Buceo’ (Las Galletas, Capital of Diving). The project is in collaboration with the Canarian Government and green group Ecologistas en Acción de Tenerife. The aim is to underpin the importance to the municipality of the Las Galletas coast as an area of water sports, and diving in particular, and to convert the town into a point of reference of submarine recreational activities, with all the socio-economic development that will accompany its success.
The Ayuntamiento has also proposed the protection of marine areas adjoining the municipality to boost diving in the general area, and is seeking a means of offering and controlling submarine fishing, something that has been banned in the municipality for decades. Keep an eye on buceo.org, which is website already under construction for the project. Like El Médano, Las Galletas is clearly going places.
