Last chance to exchange old Pesetas for Euros

It’s not just the Brexit Transition Period that will end on 31 December this year. The Policía Nacional has issued a reminder that the end of this year will also be the end of the peseta … in the sense of exchanging it for legal currency! Anyone with a stash of pesetas can exchange them in any one of the Bank of Spain’s 15 branches – in Tenerife this is in Santa Cruz, see HERE (a prior appointment is required because of the Covid19 outbreak). The exchange rate provided will be €1 euro = 166,386 pesetas. The Bank says that they will accept notes regardless of condition, even partly damaged ones as long as at least half the note remains. There is more information from the Bank of Spain itself HERE.
