Updated 2pm: Emergency services say that all three people on the plane are safe and the aircraft has been secured. Of the three on board, two needed to be cut out: a man has various injuries, mainly in the chest and stomach areas, but none of which are said to be life threatening, and a woman and child have no more than cuts and bruises. Emergency services say that all three are French, and have been transferred to Candelaria Hospital.

Original post 27 December: Anyone who decided to take some post-Christmas sun on Playa de Las Teresitas just beyond Santa Cruz today will have got slightly more of an experience than they bargained for. Details are still patchy but a light aircraft with three on board carried out an emergency landing on the beach around 1pm this lunchtime. At the moment, emergency and medical personnel are at the beach, including Cruz Roja, Bomberos Tenerife, Santa Cruz Policia Local, Canarian Health Service ambulances, Proteccion Civil, and the National Police.
